Editorial policy & data sources
Sources
Population, area, and boundary data come from the following public sources:
- U.S. Census Bureau — 2020 Decennial Census counts and subsequent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates.
- United States Geological Survey (USGS) — Geographic Names Information System, topographic data, hydrography.
- Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) — highway and airport reference data.
- Florida Association of Counties — county establishment dates, seat cities, and civic references.
- us-atlas topology (Natural Earth / TIGER-derived) for the interactive SVG map.
Editorial standards
- Every county page is written from primary sources, not generated by a language model on autopilot.
- We prefer plain language over jargon. Historic dates and figures are checked against at least one authoritative source.
- Where a claim is contested or approximate (older population estimates, informal region boundaries), we say so.
- We do not invent credentials, certifications, or awards.
Corrections
We update data when a new decennial census or an authoritative revision is released. If you spot an error, please let us know — corrections that affect factual accuracy are usually made within a few business days.
What we don't publish
We do not host property records, court dockets, election results, or other government databases. For those we link to the responsible county office — Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, Clerk of Court, or Sheriff — from each county page.
